In the Sabbath School Bible study class this week we're doing Psalm 139 among a few others. I thought this song would contribute to the study. It's a favourite of mine.

What is your summary of this worldwide event of our church? This year's author Dr. Frank Hasel has written very good texts about this that are worth continuing to think about.

This is one of the most significant chapters in the book for it sets the tone for the chapters that follow. When I think about how in the previous chapter she wrote on William Miller in the 1830's and 40's using a logical flow of Bible reasoning to support his views, then by the late 1880's we already have the trend in motion this chapter represents, the conclusion I came to is that by 1888 the Adventists in America had made enough of an impact that the compromised preaching of the big name speakers of the day was a direct rejection of the Sabbath. Taking the thought further, the reason we have gay marriage and abortion in our time is because the watered down Christianity they were offering in 1888 got more and more watered down in each generation until finally in the 1960's people gave up on the church and went to the secularism we have today.
