As Seventh-day Adventists, we have a belief that is not shared with any other church, what we call "The Investigative Judgement". This is based on an interpretation of the Old Testament "Day of Atonement" ritual where the high priest went in to the Most Holy place in the earthly sanctuary as described in the book of Leviticus. And since 1844, Jesus has been doing this same thing on a grand scale in heaven to examine the records of people's lives before He returns to earth to rescue them and take them to be with Him forever. The date 1844 comes from a prophecy in the book of Daniel.
One verse that seems to contradict what we believe, and is therefore used against us, is Hebrews 9:12 "Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption." In other words, as people say, Jesus went into this Most Holy place right after He ascended from the earth. I think this verse is referring to the entire heavenly sanctuary as being holier than the earthly one. This is seen in verse 8 "the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing."
Consider also Psalm 102:19 "For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; From heaven the Lord viewed the earth".
