Three weeks ago as I was leaving church a guy pulls up and starts asking if I am SDA. He then goes on to tell me, with a very big chip on his shoulder, of how he left the church because of certain things being done by liberal elements within us in some places here and there. I won't go on about why as that would sidetrack this discussion. All I will say is he was such a jerk, I ended by reminding him that since he left, if he didn't make it to heaven, it was his own fault. No matter what, staying is the only way to make things better when there are problems.
Now for the rest of these three weeks I have had to deal with a slew of haters on my YouTube channels posting all the misinformation out there about us, how we're a cult etc. I tried to reason as best I could to show how each accusation was the result of their own misunderstanding of the Bible and what we teach from it. Every single one of them would not listen. So for each one I eventually clicked "hide user from this channel" to block them. The last guy, his entire channel was devoted to going on and on in great detail to refute individual things said by our preachers in video after video. All I could do was point out the unkindness of his entire outreach effort. Instead of blocking him, I reported him for harassment. If I need saving, why drop grenades of criticism on me? Build a bridge of friendship toward me first.
After all this I am reading John 22 last night, where Jesus appears to His disciples in Galilee, gives them one more miracle of fish and makes them breakfast. They are in the boat, they see its Him. Peter puts on his outer garment and "plunges into the water" to get to Jesus ahead of the others. The thought came to me of the contrast between this time and Peter trying to walk on water. The lesson there of course is focus on Christ, your problems are small. Focus on your problems and they will overwhelm you.
Now Peter plunges into water that once scared him. Yes, there was no storm that day. There is much Bible symbolism of the garment representing God's true goodness, which we get by faith when we accept Christ. Water is also defined as people groups in prophecy. So Peter, with a true experience from Jesus, can dive into this terrible world with a missionary spirit. I hope this helps someone else.
Save the date, it´s a important meeting:
